Know Your Cannabis

Education, guidance, and responsible enjoyment

Thailand has a unique and evolving relationship with cannabis. Once widely used in traditional medicine and cuisine, cannabis was prohibited for decades before Thailand became the first Asian country to decriminalize it in 2022. Today, the plant occupies a complex legal space — legal to grow and consume under certain conditions, but regulated to ensure public safety and responsible use.

At Bud Brew & Beyond, we believe that education is the foundation of responsible enjoyment. Our staff are knowledgeable about strains, effects, and dosage, and we're always happy to guide you — whether you're a first-timer or an experienced consumer. We don't push cannabis on anyone. We provide information, answer questions, and let you make your own informed choices.

This page is your starting point. Read through the sections below to understand what's available, how it works, and what the rules are. And if you have questions, just ask — that's what we're here for.

Understanding Strains

Cannabis strains are generally grouped into three categories, each offering different effects and experiences:

Sativa strains tend toward uplifting, energizing effects. They're often associated with creativity, social energy, and daytime use. Think of sativa as the "coffee" of cannabis — it wakes you up rather than slowing you down.

Indica strains lean toward relaxation and calm. They're typically associated with body relaxation, stress relief, and sleep. Indica is the wind-down — ideal for evenings or rest days.

Hybrid strains combine characteristics of both, offering a balanced experience that varies depending on the specific cultivar. Most modern strains are hybrids of some kind.

Beyond the strain type, two key compounds shape your experience: THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) is the primary psychoactive compound — it's what creates the "high." CBD (cannabidiol) is non-psychoactive and is associated with relaxation and anti-inflammatory effects. The ratio of THC to CBD in a given product significantly affects the experience.

Responsible Use

Cannabis affects everyone differently. Your body weight, tolerance, mood, and environment all play a role in how you'll respond. The golden rule is simple: start low, go slow.

If you're new to cannabis or trying a new product, begin with a small amount and wait at least 30–60 minutes before consuming more. Edibles in particular take longer to take effect than smoking or vaping — sometimes up to two hours — so patience is essential.

Cannabis is not for everyone, and that's perfectly fine. If you have a history of anxiety, respiratory issues, or are taking medication, consult a healthcare professional before use. Pregnant or breastfeeding individuals should not consume cannabis.

Never drive or operate machinery after consuming cannabis. Plan your evening accordingly — Bangkok has plenty of affordable transport options. Stay hydrated, eat well, and enjoy the experience in a safe, comfortable environment. Our bar and common areas are designed to be exactly that kind of space.

Legal Context

Thailand's cannabis regulations have evolved significantly. As of 2025, cannabis is legal for adults aged 20 and over, but it is regulated. Here are the key points you should know:

Age requirement: You must be 20 years or older to purchase or consume cannabis in Thailand. ID may be required.

Where you can consume: Cannabis may be consumed in licensed premises and private spaces. Public consumption — including on streets, in parks, and in temples — is prohibited and can result in fines.

What's regulated: THC content in certain products is regulated. Cannabis extracts with more than 0.2% THC are classified as controlled substances under specific conditions. Whole-plant cannabis (buds, flowers) for personal use is generally permitted from licensed sources.

Tourism note: As a visitor, you are subject to Thai law. Cannabis purchased and consumed legally in Thailand cannot be taken out of the country. Crossing any international border with cannabis remains illegal under international law.

Regulations can change. We stay current so you don't have to — but we always recommend checking the latest guidance from Thai authorities during your visit.

Our Approach

Bud Brew & Beyond is not a dispensary and not a cannabis bar. We are a boutique hotel with a craft bar that includes cannabis-related products as part of a broader offering. Our approach is rooted in education, not promotion.

Our staff undergo training on cannabis strains, effects, responsible dosing, and Thai regulations. They can answer your questions, suggest products based on your experience level and preferences, and help you make informed choices. Think of them as guides, not salespeople.

We offer a curated selection rather than an overwhelming menu. Every product we carry has been vetted for quality, sourced from licensed Thai producers, and selected to offer a range of experiences — from mild and social to deep and contemplative.

If cannabis isn't your thing, that's completely respected. Our bar serves excellent craft beer, cocktails, wine, and non-alcoholic options. The goal is always the same: a great night in a great space, on your terms.
